Commitment & 2 Crazy episodes of my friends’ love lives

with 24 comments

I recently came to know about 2 really crazy incidents in love lives of my friends.

A friend of mine was in a so called committed relationship with a girl for the last 6 years. Then just 3 months back, the couple had a fight over a pity matter. For the next one month, they didn’t talk to each other. Then one fine day, my friend received a wedding invitation! And can you guess who the wedding couple was? It was the girl my friend was in relation with & a rich guy she had met in a wedding, just a month back!!

As far as my friend is concerned, he is devastated. The girl got married and went to the US. And my friend still hasn’t been able to figure out about what has hit him.

The second incident is of a friend who was going out with a girl for the last couple of years. He was well off and both were in love with each other. Being a committed couple, they frequently used to discuss about their ‘combined’ future. Then one day, the boy’s family showed him a picture of a girl they wanted him to marry. My friend, though not whole heartedly, allowed his family to set up a meeting between the girl and himself. They met in a ‘wedding’[got the hint?] and my ‘dear’ friend decided that it was time to move on. Very soon he got married to the girl he met in the wedding and went to the US!!

His ex-girlfriend is as devastated as my first friend. Even she does not know about what hit her.

As you must have understood by now that the girlfriend of my first friend got married to my second friend; who dumped his long time sweetheart for someone, he met just a month back.

This entire episode leaves me with a blown head and one simple question –

What actually is Commitment (!!)?

  4. Seriously ur friends are crazy.. Without any proper reason, they just left them.. very bad.. Nowadays, we cant expect any committment from anyone..Some people just want to enjoy their life and once they get a chance, they just dump..

  6. Really! I am checking out your blog every now and then and mostly deterred by long posts. This one was short and read it.

Must say people are crazy these days and as of two left-alones joining each other, it probably is this that they understand what each has gone through and might end up into real commitment soon! 🙂

Or shall I get negative and think that they probably are just trying to get refuse from the shock they have been through….

Like pics from your biking trips!

I guess the question is not right – the 2 people who decided to marry within a month of knowing one another *are* committed. The real question is – what are they committed to.
The girl’s commitment is towards finding a rich guy to marry. The boy’s commitment is probably to marry a pretty girl (I’m assuming the girl is pretty). They are so committed to their respective goals that they are willing to sacrifice relationships for it.

The right questions to ask are:
    1. What are people committed to these days?
    2. Why are people not committed to their partners?

    1. People are committed to happiness. They want to be happy. It is the mother of all motivations. A lot of times, that means harming the people around you. But well ..!
    2. People are not committed to their partners because they don’t need to be. Also, it often contradicts (1).

  11. They didnt know the meaning of commitment or love for that matter. Sad at what the gf and the bf r going through. Heart breaks can be so horrible.
Congrats on winning the best personal Indiblog award.

  12. @Shubhang
No man, you know none of them. 😉

    You have me thinking… 🙂

Thanks a lot Reema. 🙂 Could not have made it without you all. 🙂

  13. Anyway I should say that the two who ‘don’t know what has hit them’ are certainly better off with their respective ‘committed’ partners off from their lives. Lol, who needs such ‘commitment’??!!

I think they were not much confused. They just did what they wanted!

Guess the definition of Commitment has changed.

  18. Hmmm!! Well, times have changed. Current gen. believe in “ isn’t working any more, let’s MOVE ON” Commitment isn’t the flavor anymore! It’s TRIED and TESTED that works…! Relationships have a different meaning altogether these days. It’s about FUN. As long as the fun is thr it lasts…& the minute the FUN factor goes out of the window, it’s time to MOVE ON…!!

Don’t worry, such fickle minded ppl wud again MOVE ON Someday…in their lives!! Nothing can satisfy such ppl!

  19. @The Survivor
God knows about the chances you are talking about…
    Thanks. 🙂

Yes…its a style these days to Move On. Very True.

  20. so easy hun!!?? GOSH!!! 😯

    December 22, 2009 at 10:36 am

  21. They definitely were not true towards their GF/BF. But really shocking! :O Even I have seen such instances happen where the committed people suddenly break and get re-committed in a few days.

  22. Someone once told me that being committed towards someone is like putting blinders on a horse’s eyes. Make sure that person sees only and only you 😀

Lemme know if you find an answer to this question..or better still, write a post 🙂

    January 10, 2010 at 11:54 pm

  23. The main question is did you attend the wedding of that friend of yours? And how did you deal with the other devastated soul friend?
But I don’t see any relationship commitments happening in the entire episode. Though I got an idea that you can set up the left out guy and girl together 😛
    LOL Sorry couldn’t help it.

    January 11, 2010 at 1:38 pm

  24. seems like that word “commitment” is flexible for ppl how they willing to bend it in their own ways hmmm … sad 😦
