Luck Spells Planning, Preparation & Execution

with 2 comments

Some stupid people believe in something more stupid called luck. No, I am not saying that I don’t believe in it. I definitely do believe it. But I can convince you that if you think about it in a rational manner you will feel what I want you to feel.
It really is astonishing to see, how far people are ready to go, just to be lucky. All they feel is that ‘luck’ is going to give them a much better chance of succeeding in their endeavour. Behind the word luck, lie the fundamentals of planning, preparation & execution. That is to say, that if you know there might be an opportunity in the near future, its your moral duty to ‘plan’ your actions and be sufficiently ‘prepared’ when the opportunity knocks at your door. And then comes the phase of ‘spot on execution’.

And mind you, all this does not come from luck.

By planning and preparing you get the means and judgement to be sufficiently ready to strike when the iron is hot. And believe me, it takes a lot of courage to strike back when the opportunity strikes.
What I want to emphasize here is that – “the more you prepare, luckier you get”
Your luck is actually proportional to the amount of preparation you do.

Even Louis Pasteur said – “Fortune favours the prepared mind.”

Now what happens when you say you are unlucky?

You panic. Fear takes control of your mind. You start thinking that you wont win, no matter what. You don’t even prepare. There is a bloody pessimistic stampede in your mind.
What is the result of such an attitude?

You loose! And all you do is blame your stupid ‘luck’…

Successful execution of your plans require emotional discipline from you. The discipline of feeling lucky all the time. And believe me, “your luck in being lucky will increase exponentially.”
You will feel an uptrend in your attitude and a spring in your walk.
I don’t say that you will start winning everytime. But definitely, you will be luckier than ever before.

What else should I say here???
I think I will end with –

“When you leave everything to chance, then all of a sudden, you don’t have any more luck.”

keep being lucky….

Your attitude is your INVESTMENT

leave a comment »

I must say, I have been very very fortunate to have read INTELLIGENT INVESTOR by Benjamin Graham.
And as Warren Buffet said – “It’s by far the greatest book ever written on investing.”
And as you all know, there is no point doubting God’s own words…
;-)For me the I2 (that’s what I love to call INTELLIGENT INVESTOR), has been more of a workbook than just a book. It’s the constant guiding beacon for my investments as well as provides me with a larger-than-life playground to test my investing experiments.

So let’s get down to business of investing.

What is actually investing?
An investment operation is one which upon thorough analysis promises safety of principal and adequate returns. Operations not meeting these requirements are speculative.
An investor must always recognize the existence of a speculative component in his holdings. And it his job to keep the speculative component under check.

Now I ask – Can you predict the market movement?
It makes sense to believe you can predict something only if it actually is predictable. Right? And market is fundamentally unpredictable. It’s so because the market depends on the forces of demand and supply and these in turn depend on minds of people. Then how the hell can you even try to predict the behaviour of something as unpredictable as the mind of a large group of individuals?
But one thing is for sure – markets will fluctuate 😉 …and that is obvious.
What we need to do in the market is to buy from the pessimists and sell it to the optimists.

And no matter how careful you are, the one risk no investor can ever eliminate is the risk of being wrong.
And actually speaking, successful investing is all about managing risks and not avoiding them.

Some stupid people believe in something more stupid called luck. Behind this luck, lies the fundamentals of planning, preparation and execution.
One must be sufficiently prepared, when the opportunity knocks on the door. You must have the means, the judgement and the courage to take its advantage.

And what happens when you leave everything to chance and speculate in the market – all of a sudden you don’t have any more luck. You get painted red in the market.

So what I would suggest is that be prepared to do your homework before investing because it requires a great deal of preparation, boldness and caution to make a great fortune, and when you have got it, it requires 10 times as much wit to keep it.

And listen…

…there will never be an invitation to make profit….

So be prepared….

The curse of the alarm clock

with 3 comments

If you are the person who needs a monster called alarm clock in the morning, to wake up, then congratulations; you have found an empathizer in me.To me, it always seems that, the alarm clock is cursed and every morning, it starts cursing me to wake me out of the comfort of my bed.

Though earlier, I had this monster. But now I have a really pesting device called cell phone to curse me first thing in the morning.

Are there really 24 hours in a day?
Of ‘curse’ !
Unluckily, we don’t live on moon, where a day lasts for more than 27 days.
But think of those on Jupiter (…even if there are none). A day there lasts just about 11 hours!

Let’s get back to where we started – the alarm clocks.
I know that we all agree to the fact that they are the necessary evils.

And you know what…. Some time back, I came to know, that a new breed of alarm clocks are being manufactured. These blow a horn on your face and then using their mechanical ‘legs’, run away to a different corner of the room. i.e. they make you run after them when you are most sleep…!!!

Now I would like to take the pleasure of asking you – “ How can the inventors of such devices be so CRUEL ? ”
How can you go on to make a thing that disturbs us so horrifyingly, when we are at our sleeping best?
I think these people should be booked under the case of serious mental harassment.

No matter what I say, I know that the alarm clock will keep on cursing me.

I just hope…..(NO! why should I just hope…) I know it…..that one day, even I will have the power to curse the alarm clock as it cursed me….

Till then….
Keep cursin’………(oops….. wakin’)
